UV Unfold
Updated May 2026
The UV Unfold tool automatically unwraps UV coordinates for your 3D model using Hunyuan AI. Good UV maps are essential for applying textures accurately. This tool handles the unwrapping in one click, saving you the manual work of placing seams and laying out UV islands.
Cost: 5 credits
How It Works
- Upload your model (GLB, GLTF, FBX, or OBJ)
- Click Unfold UVs
- The AI analyzes the geometry, picks natural seam locations, and generates a clean UV layout
- Download the UV-mapped model
The AI places seams along natural edges and hidden areas to minimize visible texture stretching. The result is a model ready for texturing in the Texture Generator, Texture Painter, or external tools like Substance Painter.

Limits
- Max file size: 120 MB
- Max face count: 30,000 faces
- Accepted formats: GLB, GLTF, FBX, OBJ
If your model exceeds the 30,000 face limit, use Remesh first to reduce the poly count, then run UV Unfold on the lighter model.
Important Notes
- UVs only. This tool generates UV coordinates. It does not create or preserve textures. If your model already has textures, they will not carry over to the new UV layout. You will need to re-texture afterward.
- Best used on models that either have no UVs at all, or have poor UV layouts that cause texture stretching and distortion.
- Works well as a step before the Texture Generator, which needs proper UVs to paint textures onto your model.
What’s Next
With clean UVs in place, head to the Texture Generator to add materials and surface detail, or use the Texture Painter for hand-directed texture work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need UV unwrapping for AI-generated 3D models?
Many AI-generated models come with poor or missing UV coordinates. Without proper UVs, textures stretch, distort, or do not apply at all. Running UV Unfold in 3D AI Studio gives your model a clean UV layout so the Texture Generator and Texture Painter can paint surfaces accurately.
How much does automatic UV unwrapping cost?
UV Unfold in 3D AI Studio costs 5 credits per model. It is one of the cheapest processing tools available and is often worth running before texturing, since better UVs lead to significantly better texture results.
Does UV Unfold preserve my existing textures?
No. UV Unfold regenerates the UV coordinates from scratch, which means any existing textures mapped to the old UVs will no longer align. Plan to re-texture your model after unwrapping. In 3D AI Studio, you can go directly from UV Unfold to the Texture Generator to apply new textures on the clean layout.
What is the maximum model size for UV unwrapping?
3D AI Studio accepts models up to 120MB and 30,000 faces for UV Unfold. If your model exceeds 30,000 faces, use the Remesh tool first to reduce the poly count, then run UV Unfold on the lighter version. The tool accepts GLB, GLTF, FBX, and OBJ formats.
How does the AI decide where to place UV seams?
The Hunyuan AI in 3D AI Studio analyzes the geometry and places seams along natural edges, creases, and hidden areas like the back of limbs or underside of objects. This minimizes visible texture stretching on prominent surfaces while keeping seam artifacts in less noticeable locations.
Can I use UV Unfold for models I plan to texture in Substance Painter?
Yes. Run UV Unfold in 3D AI Studio, download the model with its new UV layout, and import it into Substance Painter or any other texturing tool. The generated UVs follow standard conventions with properly packed UV islands, so external tools work with them just as well as the built-in texturing tools.
