# Model Storage & Expiry

How long generated 3D models stay in your library, how to see a file's storage date, how to extend storage to 3 years, and what happens when a file expires.

Every 3D model you generate is stored in your library for a set period, so your Dashboard stays fast and we don't keep files nobody needs anymore. You can always see when a file's storage period ends, and you can extend it.

## How long models are kept

| Plan | Storage period |
| --- | --- |
| Free plan | **6 months** |
| Paid plans (Basic, Studio, Pro) and credit packs | **12 months** |
| After **Extend storage** | **3 years** |

The period is counted from the day the model was created, and the plan that applies is the one you were on at that moment. Models made while you're on a paid plan keep their 12 months even if you later downgrade or cancel - storage is never shortened.

Team files follow the team's plan.

## Seeing a file's storage date

Open any 3D model in your Dashboard. The **Details** panel shows a **Stored** row with the exact date the file is kept until, for example *Until Mar 6, 2027*.

During the last month before that date, the file's card in your Dashboard shows a small clock with the days left, so it's easy to spot files that are about to expire.

## Extending storage

Any 3D model that is still available can be extended once:

1. Open the model in your Dashboard
2. In **Details → Stored**, click **Extend storage · 1 credit**
3. Confirm - the row updates to the new date right away

Extended files are kept for **3 years from the day they were created**. The confirmation shows the exact resulting date before you pay.

Good to know:

- Extending costs **1 credit** and can be done **once per file**
- Files up to **150 MB** can be extended. For larger files, run them through [GLB Compression](https://docs.3daistudio.com/utilities/glb-compression) first and extend the compressed copy
- Each file is extended on its own: converted copies, rigged versions and other derived files have their own storage dates

## What happens when a file expires

When the storage period ends, the model file itself is removed and can no longer be viewed, downloaded or processed. Everything around it stays in your library:

- The thumbnail and the card in your Dashboard
- The input images, prompt and generation settings
- Tags, notes and project membership

Opening an expired file shows when it was stored until and offers **Generate again** with the same inputs and settings when those were recorded. The expired file can't be restored.

## Images, videos and other files

Storage periods apply to 3D model files. Images and videos generated in Image Studio and Flow are not affected.
