# Claude Code MCP Setup

Add the 3D AI Studio MCP server to Claude Code with one claude mcp add command, sign in with /mcp, and generate 3D models and images from your terminal.

Claude Code can generate 3D models, images and materials for your project straight from the terminal. Ask for a game asset, a texture set or a 3D printable part, and Claude Code creates it on 3D AI Studio and gives you the result.

New to 3D AI Studio? See the [3D model generation MCP](https://www.3daistudio.com/MCP) for what it can do and example results.

> [!NOTE]
> Want Claude Code to do the setup itself? Paste the brief from [Set Up With Your Agent](https://docs.3daistudio.com/mcp/agent-setup).

## What you need

- A **3D AI Studio account on a paid plan**.
- **Claude Code**, updated to a recent version.
- A browser on the same machine for the one time sign in.

> [!NOTE]
> **Commands not working?** Claude Code changes how it handles MCP servers from time to time, so the commands below can go out of date. The quickest fix is to let Claude Code do it. Paste this into a session:

```text
Add the 3D AI Studio MCP server for me: https://mcp.3daistudio.com/mcp
(remote server, Streamable HTTP, OAuth sign in, no API key).
Follow https://docs.3daistudio.com/mcp-setup.md, and if your version works differently, use the current way to add a remote MCP server.
```

## Setup

### Add the server

Run this in your terminal:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user 3daistudio https://mcp.3daistudio.com/mcp
```

- `--scope user` makes 3D AI Studio available in all your projects. Leave it out to add it to the current project only.
- `3daistudio` is the server name. You can pick another name, but the commands on this page assume `3daistudio`.

### Authenticate

Start Claude Code and run:

```text
/mcp
```

Select **3daistudio** and choose **Authenticate**. A 3D AI Studio page opens in your browser:

1. Sign in with your 3D AI Studio account.
2. Under **Use credits from**, keep **Personal** or choose a team.
3. Click **Authorize**.

Return to Claude Code. The server now shows as connected in `/mcp`.

### Try it

Ask Claude Code:

> "Use 3D AI Studio to make a low poly treasure chest for my game and give me the GLB."

## Check that it worked

- Run `claude mcp list` in your terminal. `3daistudio` should be listed.
- Inside Claude Code, ask: **"What's my 3D AI Studio credit balance?"**

## Working with results in the terminal

- Claude Code shows finished models and images as **links** (there is no inline 3D viewer in the terminal). Open them in your browser or in your [dashboard](https://www.3daistudio.com/Dashboard).
- To use a local image (a sketch, a photo, a concept), Claude Code gives you a **link to an upload page**. Open it, drop the file in, then tell Claude Code you are done. See [Images & Uploads](https://docs.3daistudio.com/mcp/images-and-uploads).
- Ask Claude Code to **convert** a model to the format your project needs (for example "convert it to FBX" or "export an STL scaled to 10 cm").

## Claude Code specific fixes

| Problem | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| `3daistudio` shows as needing authentication | Run `/mcp`, select `3daistudio` and choose **Authenticate** |
| The tools do not appear | Restart Claude Code, then check `claude mcp list`. Make sure the URL is exactly `https://mcp.3daistudio.com/mcp` |
| A session says it has an outdated sign in | Close all running Claude Code sessions and start a new one. Your connection itself is fine |
| You want to remove the server | Run `claude mcp remove 3daistudio`, and disconnect it in [Settings → AI Assistants (MCP)](https://www.3daistudio.com/Dashboard?settings=mcp) |

More fixes are on the [Troubleshooting](https://docs.3daistudio.com/mcp/troubleshooting) page.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does Claude Code need an API key for 3D AI Studio?

No. Claude Code signs in through your browser (OAuth). Do not add any API key or token to the configuration.

### Can I share the setup with my team through the repository?

You can add the server at project scope so the configuration is shared, but each teammate still signs in with their own 3D AI Studio account. Sign ins are never shared through the repository.

### Where are the generated files?

In your 3D AI Studio dashboard, and Claude Code gives you the download links in the conversation. Ask it to save a file into your project if you want it on disk.
